Too much choice anyone?

Last week I did a talk on the interest graph at the great new media event TheConference in Malmo Sweden. My argument is that the interest graph is required because people are simply overwhelmed by choice. Thus the big challenge of internet companies will be to filter and make the right and relevant information for each individual float to the top. So gone are the days when it’s about creating content, today its all about filtering and making systems so people can make the internet their own.

This is no mean feat. By many Amazon’s engine is considered the best existing for recommendations. But if you’re a frequent purchaser of books, such as myself you will find it faulty at best. Often coming with hilarious, or offensive depending on your personality, recommendations such as “Small Pets for Grannys” or “Living with a Mental disease”. Hardly the most flattering suggestions, neither may I just add, accurate.
